The Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified 51-year-old Frankie Wilkey, of Grovetown, as the man who lost his life following a traffic crash Thursday afternoon on I-520.
The investigation reports showed that 51-year-old Frankie Wilkey was declared deceased at 4 p.m. after a crash on I-520. The reports also revealed that Wilkey was heading west near I-20 when he failed to maintain control of his vehicle for unknown reasons and rolled multiple times. Wilkey was then rushed to Augusta University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The fatal incident was reported at 7:05 a.m. One of the two lanes was shut down due to the crash. The collision also brought the westbound traffic to a standstill nearly all the way east to Wheeler Road. The coroner’s office reports that no autopsy will be done.
The cause of the crash remains under review.
