Officials identified 48-year-old Willie Jackson as the man who lost his life after being hit by a vehicle last week in North Long Beach.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision took place at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue last week. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers found Jackson at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday after responding to reports of a man who had been lying unconscious in the roadway.

Jackson was stuck underneath a vehicle when officers reached the scene. He was declared dead by the paramedics. Jackson died as a result of major injuries sustained after being struck by the vehicle. His death was ruled accidental. The driver of the vehicle that hit Jackson was a 17-year-old boy. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

Distracted driving, speeding and impaired driving were not believed to be involved in the accident. The driver, who did not have a driver’s license, was released into the custody of a parent at the scene. No other information is available.

An investigation is ongoing.
