Authorities identified 43-year-old Mickey A Jones, of Tyler, as the man who lost his life following a crash in Van Zandt County.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle accident took place on State Highway 64, about 6.5 miles east of Canton in Van Zandt County. The preliminary reports showed that Mickey A Jones was driving west on Highway 64 at an unsafe speed for the road and weather conditions.
The reports further revealed that Jones lost control of his vehicle on the icy road. Then, his car began to spin clockwise until it eventually slid off the north side of the highway and into a ditch where it collided with a tree.
Jones succumbed to his injuries at the scene. DPS said that Jones was not buckled up at the time of the crash. Officials also mentioned that there was ice on the road at the time of the accident. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
