Officials identified 42-year-old James Engeman who died after a crash in Upshur County (Upshur County, TX)

Officials identified 42-year-old James Engeman, of Gladewater, as the man who lost his life following a crash Sunday in Upshur County.

As per the initial information, the crews actively responded to the area at Farm-to-Market Road 1844, northeast of Gladewater Sunday at about 12:45 a.m. after getting reports of a single-vehicle accident.

The preliminary reports showed that a pickup truck driven by James Engeman was heading westbound on FM 1844 when, for unknown reasons, it went off the roadway, after which the driver overcorrected and crossed the eastbound lane.

The vehicle then went into a ditch and hit several trees. He was ejected from the truck due to the impact. Engeman was declared dead at the scene by the officials. No other information is available.

An investigation is ongoing.
