Officials identified 41-year-old Gretchen Echols who died from her injuries in a crash (Clayton, GA)

Authorities identified 41-year-old Gretchen Echols, of Clayton, as the woman who died from her injuries that she sustained in a crash that happened on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

Authorities confirmed that Gretchen Echols, 41, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Her son, Ian Echols, 8, was killed immediately following the two-vehicle accident on Highway 76 at Charlie Mountain Road.

The reports showed that a joint celebration of life service for mother and son will be organized on Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home in Clayton. No other details are available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
