Authorities identified 33-year-old Carlos Garcia, of Hermitage, as the man who lost his life Tuesday after a crash Sunday night on Bell Road while vehicular assault charge against the driver is being upgraded to vehicular homicide.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle accident took place Sunday on Bell Road. Carlos Garcia, 33, of Hermitage, was one of three people in a Chevrolet pick-up truck that hit a concrete wall on the bridge over Percy Priest Dam.
The preliminary reports showed that the driver of the truck, identified as 36-year-old Raymundo Gonzalez Garcia, of Hermitage, lost control resulting in the vehicle sliding on its side before smashing into the wall. Raymundo Garcia remained unharmed in the collision, but officers observed signs that he was impaired at that time. A search warrant for blood evidence was executed.
Carlos Garcia was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with major injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. The third passenger incurred minor injuries. Raymundo Garcia was charged on Sunday with vehicular assault, aggravated assault by reckless conduct, and driving without a license. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
