Officials identified 28-year-old Luis Chaires who died in a single-vehicle crash near Bayou L’Ourse (Bayou L’Ourse, LA)

Authorities identified 28-year-old Luis Chaires, of Morgan City, as the man who was killed following a single-vehicle crash near Bayou L’Ourse.

As per the initial information, just after 2:00 a.m. State Police Troop C actively responded to the area of Louisiana Highway 398 approximately 2 miles east of Louisiana Highway 663 near the community of Bayou L’Ourse on reports of a traffic collision.

The investigation reports showed that Chaires was heading east on LA Hwy 398 in a 2006 GMC Sierra when his pickup crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and veered off the roadway to the left. Reports further revealed that Chaires tried to regain control of the vehicle by steering right, but overcorrected which caused the GMC to rotate.

The GMC then swerved off the roadway to the right where it flipped over and collided with a tree. Chaires was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, and as a result, got partially ejected from his vehicle. Chaires received major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Toxicology samples were collected from Chaires and sent for analysis.

The incident remains under investigation.
