Authorities identified 27-year-old Yvonnedolyn Michelle Ortega who lost her life after a pedestrian crash on Saturday, Nov. 20 while police took 23-year-old Haeleah Shae Lester into custody for leaving the crash scene.

The investigation reports showed that Lester was driving north on 1st Avenue in the median lane in a white 2017 Jeep when she hit a pedestrian lying in the roadway. Despite the life-saving measures, Ortega was declared deceased at the scene. Officers followed roadway evidence and found the Jeep in the 500 block of East River Road, which was vacant.

Later, detectives located and identified Lester as the owner. Lester has been booked into Pima County Jail for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Authorities said that jaywalking by Ortega played a major part in the collision. No other details were provided.
