Officials identified 26-year-old Mary Thompson, of LaPlace, as the woman who lost her life following a two-vehicle crash on Thursday in LaPlace.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B actively responded to the area of U.S. Hwy 61 North on reports of a traffic collision. The investigation reports showed that 26-year-old Mary Thompson from LaPlace was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker when she tried to enter U.S. Hwy 61 North from a private driveway but did not to yield to an incoming 2016 Freightliner that was heading north in the left lane of U.S. Hwy 61.
Just then, Thompson’s vehicle collided with the Freightliner as her vehicle came into its way. Thompson was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was thrown from her vehicle. The St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner’s Office declared her deceased at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Freightliner was restrained and remained unharmed in the accident. Toxicology samples were collected from both Thompson and the Freightliner driver and have been submitted for analysis.
An investigation is ongoing.
