On Tuesday, authorities identified 26-year-old Jesse Armando Sosa, of Chula Vista, as the man who lost his life following a crash Sunday on a San Diego freeway ramp.
The fatal traffic accident took place during the early hours of Sunday on the ramp from northbound Interstate 805 to State Route 94. Witnesses said that as the vehicle approached the SR-94 ramp at a high rate of speed, Sosa’s 2021 Toyota Tacoma crossed onto the grass median, hit a metal guardrail and then struck a cement bridge pillar.
On arrival, emergency responders freed Sosa from the vehicle and declared him dead. Sosa’s cause of death was ruled as blunt force head trauma. During the investigation, officers observed and heard several gunshots fired from a white pickup truck at the Market Street and I-805 intersection.
No one involved in the crash investigation was hit and officers did not find evidence of other gunshot victims. It is unclear if the shooter was aiming at the officers at the crash site. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
