Officials identified 17-year-old Ricardo Gomez who died after a motorcycle crash in Washoe County (Spanish Springs, NV)

On Monday, Washoe County medical examiner’s office identified 17-year-old Ricardo Gomez as the boy who was killed last week following a two-vehicle collision in Washoe County.

The fatal motorcycle accident took place on Thursday at about 7:30 a.m. in Spanish Springs, more than 12 miles (19 kilometers) north of Reno. Reports indicated that Gomez rear-ended the bus for unknown reasons. He suffered major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by the officials.

There were several children in the bus at the time of the crash. The driver of the bus and all the children remained uninjured. Officials transported them on a new bus and they were taken to their school, where counselors were waiting for them. It is unknown why Gomez hit his motorcycle and if speed was involved in the crash.

An investigation continues.
