Officials identified 16-year-old Tim Reece who died after a rear-end crash in Van Nuys (Los Angeles, CA)

Authorities identified 16-year-old Tim Reece as the teenager who lost his life after a two-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Van Nuys.

The fatal motorcycle crash took place on Victory Boulevard and Odessa Avenue at 2:13 a.m. The preliminary reports showed that Reece was riding his bike westbound on Victory Boulevard when it veered for unknown reasons and struck a pickup truck from behind.

Reece died of his injuries at the scene. The driver of the pickup remained uninjured in the collision. It is unknown if speed and impairment contributed to the crash. The intersection was shut down for an hour during the investigation. No other details are available.

The incident remains under active review.
