A mother and her child were hospitalized following a traffic collision Tuesday in Imperial Beach.
As per the initial information, the bicycle accident took place at about 8:12 p.m. on 11th Street and Fern Avenue. The preliminary reports showed that a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 78-year-old man was heading on 11th Street when his pickup struck two bicyclists crossing the street at Fern Avenue.
Due to the impact, the mom and her child were thrown from their bikes. The mother was transported to a hospital in a stable condition sustaining serious injuries, and the unidentified child incurred only minor injuries. Police detained the driver and he was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
