On Tuesday, a traffic collision involving a semi-truck and several other vehicles on Interstate 82 led to minor injuries and also congested eastbound traffic for several hours.
As per the initial information, the multi-vehicle wreck started at around 10 a.m. when an officer stopped a driver to the right shoulder of Interstate 82 eastbound, close to exit 36 toward Union Gap. The early reports showed that the vehicle was contacted; it went back into traffic in an unsafe manner and led to the accident.
Reports further added that the vehicle pulled out in front of a FedEx truck, which swerved to avoid the collision and got hit by an SUV from behind. Just then, the semi-truck immediately applied brakes to avoid adding to the crash. According to the officials, the driver of the semi-truck noticed the collision happen and locked up his brakes to avoid striking a trooper who was still parked on the shoulder.
The truck jackknifed and smashed into the fence dividing the freeway from Rudkin Road, but did not hit any other vehicles. The driver who led to the crash cooperated with the officers and will likely face criminal charges. No other details are made available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
