Man succumbed to his injuries after an auto-pedestrian crash near University Park Estates (Long Beach, CA)

On Thursday, officials made an announcement that a man in his 30s lost his life at a hospital last week, two days after he was struck by a vehicle near Long Beach’s University Park Estates neighborhood.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at about 6:04 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 in the area of Seventh Street and Pepper Tree Lane. The preliminary reports showed that a 40-year-old Long Beach resident was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 in the eastbound lanes on Seventh Street when they hit the man, who was outside of a crosswalk.

Authorities responded to the scene and, on arrival, found the man in the roadway and provided aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and performed life-saving measures. The LBFD rushed the man to a medical center where he was hospitalized for two days before succumbing to his injuries.

Detectives were only informed of the man’s death Thursday. The driver of the Mazda stayed at the scene the day of the collision and cooperated with the officers. Distracted driving, speeding and impairment were not considered to be involved in the collision. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
