On Tuesday evening, a 42-year-old man suffered injuries after a high-speed crash on Seabeck Highway while 62-year-old Bremerton woman was charged with driving while intoxicated.
A witness informed the officers that while driving on the road at around 6 p.m., a white 2015 Toyota 4Runner was following them too closely so they stopped to let the vehicle pass. The Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed and as the witness continued on the road, they found the Toyota on its roof in the ditch near Northridge Lane.
The witness helped in rescuing the woman, but her son had to be freed from the vehicle. On arrival, rescuers extricated the man and airlifted him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non-critical injuries. Before being transported to jail, the woman was taken to St. Michael Medical Center for a blood sample, which led authorities to believe that she was under the influence.
Officers did not charge the woman with a crime but was taken into the Kitsap County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault and held on $50,000 bail. She is expected to be arraigned on the charges Thursday in Kitsap County Superior Court.
An investigation continues.
