Man dead following a rear-end collision on Highway 99 (Merced, CA)

A man lost his life following a traffic collision Tuesday morning on Highway 99.

As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place at about 4:45 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, north of Merced Avenue. The preliminary reports showed that Chrysler Town and Country van male driver stopped in the No. 3 lane when a 2016 Volvo 670 semi-trailer combination driver failed to stop in time and struck the back of the van.

The van driver was thrown from the vehicle due to the impact, and they succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The semi-trailer combination’s driver remained unharmed in the accident, and cooperated with the investigators. Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be involved in the crash. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
