Man dead after an auto-pedestrian collision in Encinitas (Encinitas, CA)

On Sunday afternoon, a man lost his life after being hit by a vehicle in Encinitas.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash was reported at about 4:00 p.m. on Piraeus Street near Normandy Road. The preliminary reports revealed that a vehicle pulled over in the southbound bicycle lane of Piraeus Street where a man, who was a passenger, came out.

The man went over the south and northbound lanes onto the east shoulder of Piraeus Street to pick a flower. After grabbing the flower, he moved back west from the shoulder into the northbound lane of traffic when a car heading northbound on Piraeus Street hit him.

On arrival, medical personnel rushed the man to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the involved vehicle remained unharmed. Alcohol and drugs did not seem to be involved in the accident. No other details are made available.

The incident remains under investigation.
