Kennewick man lost his life in a wrong-way crash on I-82 (Kennewick, WA)

A 60-year-old man from Kennewick perished after troopers say he precipitated a three-car crash by steering his vehicle the wrong direction on I-82 near Prosser.

The deadly accident occurred just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officials with Washington State Patrol tell that Steven Chalcraft was steering a SUV westbound in the eastbound lanes, about two miles east of Prosser, when he banged into a pickup truck.

Consequently, the pickup driver, 65-year-old Jerry Frazier of Yakima, then struck a car.
Chalcraft died at the scene. Frazier was wounded and shifted to Kadlec for treatment. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Each driver was fastening their seat belts, according to investigators, who also say they don’t know yet if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Washington State Patrol is conducting the investigation.
