James Williams and Shinreca Brown dead after a two-vehicle crash in Memphis; Devon McDonald arrested (Memphis, TN)

Authorities identified James Williams and Shinreca Brown as the victims who lost their lives following a two-vehicle collision on Thursday night in Memphis.

The fatal car crash took place in the 3800 block of Swinnea Road near the UPS terminal (private drive) in which a 2013 semi-truck Freightliner and a 2003 Mercury Marquis were involved. According to the investigation reports, the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Devon McDonald, was driving a semi-truck when he made a left turn from the private drive into the center turn lane to go northbound onto Swinnea Road.

McDonald stopped in the center turn lane, waiting for the northbound travel lanes to clear so he could continue northbound. After entering into the center lane, the semi’s trailer did not completely clear the left southbound travel lane. The victims, James Williams and Shinreca Brown, were in a 2003 Mercury Marquis, going southbound on Swinnea Road.

At some point of time, their car collided with the part of the semi-trailer that was stopped in the travel lane. Both victims suffered major injuries and were declared dead at the scene by the officials. Devon McDonald was charged with failure to yield right of way. Officers reported that McDonald is behind bars after two people were killed in the crash. He is being held on a $1,000 bond and is due in court on June 6. No other details are made available.

The crash remains under review.
