Driver hospitalized after a car slams into control tower at the Yakima Airport (Yakima, WA)

On Friday morning, one person suffered injuries after a car crashed into the control tower at the Yakima Airport.

As per the initial information, the single-vehicle accident took place on Air Fare Way and West Washington Avenue. The early reports showed that a vehicle was going at a high rate of speed when it hit power boxes before smashing into the control tower.

Officers believe that the driver was impaired at the time of the collision. On arrival, emergency personnel rushed the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released any other details regarding the driver’s condition as of Friday morning.

At this time, it is unknown how much damage was done to the control tower and power boxes or how long it may take to repair that damage. Investigators have not provided an estimated time for when the airport might be able to restart flights and the Yakima Air Terminal website did not have any new information regarding the crash. No other details are made available.

An investigation is ongoing.
