On Sunday, a child was killed and several others suffered injuries following a two-vehicle accident near Pahrump.
The fatal incident took place at around 4 p.m. on State Route 160 and mile marker 43, close to the county line outside of Pahrump in which two vehicles were involved. According to the preliminary reports, a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle with eight people inside, for reasons that are yet to be known. The force of the collision pushed the rear-ended vehicle towards the right hand shoulder where the vehicle rolled over.
The occupants in the second vehicle were a family. One child was declared deceased at the scene. The seven other occupants of the vehicle and the driver of the first vehicle, who was the sole occupant, were transported to Desert View Hospital for treatment of unidentified injuries. It is unclear at this time if impairment was involved in the accident. Officials shut down northbound lanes as responders worked at the scene.
The crash remains under active review.
