Bicyclist dead after being hit by a vehicle near River, Wetmore (Tucson, AZ)

On Saturday, one person was killed following a bicycle crash in Tucson.

As per the initial information, authorities actively responded to the 4400 block of North 1st Avenue on reports of a crash involving a bicyclist and a white 2020 Mercedes-Benz. The preliminary investigation showed that the bicyclist and the Mercedes-Benz were both heading southbound in the median lane when the vehicle hit the bicyclist.

Despite the life-saving measures, the bicyclist was declared deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Mercedes-Benz was not impaired at the time of the accident. Police believe that improper lighting on the bicycle and not riding to the right of the roadway contributed to the accident. The reports also suggested that the crash is not related to El Tour or that the bicycles rider was taking part in El Tour. No other details are available.

An investigation continues.
