The Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 49-year-old Kirk A Madariaga who lost his life in the motorcycle accident on late Tuesday night.
The incident took place at about 10:30 p.m. on I-35 near Martin Street, on the upper level near downtown. Police said that the man was going northbound on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was approaching the upper and lower level split. Bystanders mentioned that he made a last second decision to take the upper level and rear-ended a Nissan Murano.
Authorities reported that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and the evidence suggested no pre-impact breaking before the crash. The impact ejected the motorcyclist and he sustained extensive injuries as he was not wearing a helmet or any protective gear. Witnesses performed CPR before the arrival of EMS.
Paramedics rushed the motorcyclist to Brooke Army Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries. As of now, authorities will release the identity of the motorcyclist after notifying the next of kin. The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, and EMS all answered the call.
An investigation is underway.
