Authorities identified 56-year-old Sheryl Usher, of Ojai, as the woman who lost her life after a wreck last week on Interstate 880 in Newark.
As per the initial information, the fatal four-vehicle pile-up took place just north of the Stevenson Boulevard exit. Sheryl Usher, 56, of Ojai, died Dec. 22, when the car she drove was one of four involved in a crash on southbound I-880.
The investigation reports showed that Usher was driving a Subaru Forrester when it was rear-ended by a Honda Civic. The impact caused the Subaru to veer right where it collided with a Lexus SUV. The Subaru then swerved into the far left lane where it was hit by a van. Usher succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
A passenger in the Subaru was taken to the hospital, but was expected to survive. The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time. Nobody else involved in the accident was harmed. The debris from the crash blocked the three left lanes and caused traffic delays through the area. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
