The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office identified 26-year-old Jacob Ethan Rivera as the man who lost his life following a head-on collision early Thursday morning in South Bexar County.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place just before 5 a.m. on Loop 1604 between Highway 281 and Applewhite Road. The preliminary reports showed that Rivera was driving a sedan when he crossed the double yellow lines on the road and crashed into an oncoming semitrailer head-on.
It is still not known why Rivera crossed into oncoming traffic. He was declared deceased at the scene by the officials. It is also unclear if the driver of the tractor-trailer was injured or not as a result of the wreck. Loop 1604 in the area was blocked for much of the morning so the crews could work at the scene. It is unknown when the highway will open again to traffic.
An investigation continues.
