Authorities identified 22-year-old Charles Litel, of Lake Charles, as the man who lost his life following a traffic collision Tuesday afternoon on I-10.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place shortly after noon, west of La. 397 on I-10. Charles Litel, 22, of Lake Charles, was rushed to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries on Tuesday evening.
The preliminary reports showed that Litel was driving a 2017 Toyota Tacoma west in the center lane, when, for undetermined reasons, his vehicle veered right and hit the left front quarter panel of a 2015 Lexus IS250 sedan that was entering I-10 west from the La. 397 onramp.
The force of the collision caused the Toyota to rotate clockwise and exit the road to the right where it hit multiple trees before finally coming to a halt. On the other hand, the driver of the Lexus came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the road.
The driver of the Lexus remained unharmed in the accident. Both drivers were buckled up at the time of the crash. Impairment is not believed to be a factor, but toxicology samples were obtained and sent for analysis. No other details are available.
An investigation continues.
