Authorities identified 16-year-old Jiovanni Solorio Roman who died after a crash in El Cajon (El Cajon, CA)

On Wednesday, officials released the name of 16-year-old Jiovanni Solorio Roman, a San Diego resident who died of his injuries in a hospital last week, three weeks after being involved in a fiery crash in El Cajon.

The investigation revealed that Jiovanni died on Friday morning at Rady Children’s Hospital. The fatal car crash took place just after 2 a.m. on Aug. 21 while Jiovanni was riding in a 2018 Honda Civic that drifted off Navajo Road, close to Fletcher Parkway at high speed. The car hit a light pole, overturned and burst into flames.

Reports further showed that the Grossmont High School senior driving the vehicle, 16-year-old Gady Cruz, of El Cajon, succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene. His three passengers, including Jiovanni, were transported to the hospital with serious trauma.

An investigation is ongoing.
