Authorities identified 15-year-old Gabriel Porter who lost his life following a car accident in New Orleans East.
The preliminary investigation showed that Gabriel was a freshman at John F. Kennedy High School enjoying a holiday. He was one of two children who died after a collision in New Orleans East on Monday afternoon.
Gabriel Porter, 15, who had recently shifted from Lake Charles to New Orleans along with his family, was riding around with an adult friend while on fall break from JFK. Just then, the white Lexus they were in had a flat tire and became stalled on Interstate 510 south, near Interstate 10 east.
At that point of time, the driver of a Jeep Wrangler rear-ended the Lexus, causing major injuries to Gabriel and his friend’s 2-year-old daughter, who was also in their vehicle. On arrival, rescuers rushed Gabriel and the toddler to University Medical Center, where they were both declared deceased.
The girl’s father was later listed in critical condition while the Wrangler’s driver refused to be taken to the hospital. Police did not immediately cite the Wrangler’s driver with any violations, but the incident remains under review. Authorities have not yet succeeded in locating the family of Porter’s friend and his daughter.
An investigation continues.
