The accident occurred on the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at milepost 240 at around 4 a.m.
According to the officials, there were multiple people injured. However, the officials confirmed one death at the scene.
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed by the authorities.
The cause of the accident has not been disclosed.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal crash.
The westbound lanes were closed for the duration of the investigation and for the crews o clean up the debris. They were able to reopen only one lane.
