An accident in Santa Fe Springs closed northbound lanes on 605 Freeway (Santa Fe Springs, CA)

A big rig crashed this morning at about 11 a.m. carrying an estimated 50,000 pounds of cargo on the San Gabriel River 605 Freeway in Santa Fe Springs.

The truck, with its trailer landing on its side, blocked all northbound lanes and the transition road to the northbound Santa Ana 5 Freeway and the Studebaker Road onramp to the 5 Freeway. Reports revealed that part of the trailer had also fallen down an embankment. Officials issued a Sig Alert at 11:13 a.m. and did not confirm that how long the closures will end. As of now, authorities have not released the cause that led to the crash.

An investigation is underway.
