An 8-year-old died in hospital 2 days after a two-vehicle collision in downtown Houston (Houston, TX)

An 8-year-old has reportedly died of injuries in the hospital following a two-vehicle crash in downtown Houston on Friday.

According to the reports, the fatal car crash took place at about 10:35 p.m. in the 1800 block of St. Joseph Parkway. A black Dodge Challenger was going northbound on Chartres Street when its 25-year-old driver ran a red light at the St. Joseph Parkway intersection.

Just then, the vehicle crashed into a silver Honda Civic, injuring the driver and two passengers inside. Officials confirmed that the child had life-threatening injuries, including a skull fracture. The child reportedly died on Sunday morning. The driver of the Honda and a second passenger did not suffer critical injuries.

Responders identified them as the child’s parents. Their current condition has not been released as of now. The driver of the Dodge remained uninjured. The driver stayed at the scene until officers arrived. They did not display any signs of intoxication and no charges have been filed at this time.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
