An 8-year-old died after a multi-vehicle accident in Avoyelles Parish (Avoyelles Parish, LA)

On Monday morning, an 8-year-old juvenile was killed following a fatal car crash in Avoyelles Parish.

The three-vehicle pile-up took place at about 7:45 a.m. on La. Highway 1, north of Fifth Ward. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 2017 Hyundai Elantra slowed down to turn into a private driveway when a 2000 International commercial vehicle that failed to slow down in time and rear-ended the car. Both vehicles were in the northbound lane.

The impact pushed the Elantra into the southbound lane where it got struck by a 2014 Ford F-150. The driver of the commercial vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Gene A Lemoine, of Cottonport. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck and remained uninjured. The driver of the Hyundai and two juvenile passengers were transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.

A third passenger, an 8-year-old child, died of their injuries at the scene. All the occupants of the Hyundai were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Ford was also wearing a seatbelt at that time. They also remained uninjured as a result of the accident. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
