On Sunday, an 18-month-old boy died and a woman received serious injuries after getting hit by a vehicle in North Hills.
As per the initial information, firefighters and paramedics actively responded to the 15500 block of West Nordhoff Street at 7:35 a.m. on reports of a two-vehicle accident. An eyewitness said that at least one of the vehicles “bounced” into a wall, causing injuries to the child and woman.
The preliminary reports showed that two victims were standing on a corner near a food cart when a Honda CRV jumped the curb and struck them. The reports further revealed that the woman was not related to the child. The 18-month-old was with his grandparents and was in a stroller when he was hit by the vehicle. The boy was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The reports further stated that the Honda was traveling west on Nordhoff and turning left when it crashed into a Toyota Camry. The Toyota fled the scene after the collision and police were looking for the driver, who is suspected of felony hit- and-run. The Mayor’s Crisis Response Team was requested to assist the family.
The incident remains under active review.
