On Monday afternoon, a woman was left in serious condition after she was thrown from her car following a crash on I-85 South.
As per the initial information, the wreck took place near I-85 S and Plasters Avenue at about 4:05 p.m. in which three vehicles were involved. The preliminary investigation showed that a driver in a Chevrolet Camaro was weaving in and out of traffic while traveling at a high speed on I-85, just south of Piedmont Road.
Eyewitnesses informed GSP that the driver of the Camaro was racing another vehicle when they crashed into a Kia Optima, which caused the driver to lose control and veer into the right emergency lane. At that point, a woman in a stalled Chevrolet Cruz was already in the emergency lane when the incident occurred.
The woman in the Chevrolet Cruz was launched off the interstate bridge due to the impact of the crash. The reports further revealed that the woman landed on Plasters Avenue NE, near the HERO headquarters. On arrival, first responders rushed her to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
Earlier in the day, the woman’s car was witnessed at the side of the bridge. The driver in the Camaro is facing multiple charges, including reckless driving, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, improper lane change, and serious injury by motor vehicle.
The incident remains under active review.
