The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon in Tacoma. At the entrance to Interstate 705 on state Route 509 in downtown Tacoma, a car crashed into a barrier at around 6:44 p.m.
The speeding southbound car crossed Route 509’s cable-stayed bridge at about 1:20 p.m. It attempted to enter northbound 705, according to the WSP. The car struck a curb before crashing into a wall.
The male driver has been detained on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The female passenger incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Reyer, charges of vehicular homicide will likely be sent to the Pierce County Prosecutor. The fatal crash is being investigated.
