On early Sunday morning, a man who got out of his stalled car on a Detroit freeway was struck and killed by another vehicle.
As per the initial information, troopers actively responded to the area of southbound M-39 north of Plymouth Road at around 5:25 a.m. Oct. 17 on reports of a crash. The preliminary investigation showed that the man stepped out of his disabled car and was standing outside on the freeway when a vehicle fatally hit him. He was declared deceased at the scene by the officials.
The vehicle that struck the man caught on fire and pulled over shortly after making contact. The driver remained unharmed in the accident, but was transported to a hospital for a mandatory blood draw to ascertain if any substances played a role in the incident. Southbound M-39 was blocked south of I-96 while authorities worked at the scene. All lanes were opened again to traffic at 10:41 a.m.
The incident remains under review.
