On late Sunday afternoon, a man lost his life after getting hit by a car on south Interstate 5 near the San Diego-Coronado Bridge.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at around 5:15 p.m. just south of the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. The early reports indicated that the pedestrian was walking on the right shoulder, against southbound traffic. As the man was standing in the right lane, he got struck by the vehicle.
On arrival, emergency responders tried to save the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital. At least two southbound lanes, south of the bridge, were shut down until approximately 6:40 p.m. Transition lanes to the bridge were initially blocked for around 45 minutes, but they were later reopened. No other information has been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
