A three-vehicle crash killed 1 person on freeway near U.S./Mexico border (San Diego, CA)

One person died following a three-vehicle accident on the San Diego 5 Freeway, near the U.S./Mexico border on Sunday.

California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal incident took place shortly after 2 a.m. on the southbound freeway, south of Camino De La Plaza. As of now, authorities did not confirm if the person died at the scene or at an area hospital. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. Officials did not reveal the cause that led to the crash and have not provided any further details regarding the crash.

The authorities will continue to investigate the fatal collision.
