A single-vehicle crash killed 25-year-old Damarcus Jackson on I-12 (Covington, LA)

On Thursday, 25-year-old Damarcus Jackson of Lacombe lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 12.

Louisiana State Police responded to the fatal crash just after 6:00 a.m. on Interstate 12, just east of LA 21, in St. Tammany Parish. As per preliminary reports, a 2008 Chevrolet HHR was westbound on I-12, in the left lane when it swerved onto the left shoulder for unknown reasons and hit a concrete traffic barrier. The HHR then went across all westbound lanes of travel and drifted off the road to the right.

The vehicle began to rollover before striking multiple trees. It is unconfirmed if the occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash. On arrival, officials declared Damarcus Jackson deceased while medics rushed the other victim to a local hospital in serious condition. Toxicology samples were obtained for analysis.

The incident remains under active review.
