On Friday morning, a traffic collision led to the closure of both lanes of I-20 in west Sweetwater at the Robert Lee Street overpass.
The single-vehicle crash took place on Interstate 20 at around 2:30 a.m. The preliminary investigation showed that a semi and its trailer going east crashed into the west support column of the overpass near mile marker 243. The column was damaged and the interstate was shut down to both eastbound and westbound traffic, with traffic rerouted to frontage roads.
According to the officials, eastbound and westbound traffic will be directed from the highway into Sunday. Drivers were asked to use alternate routes and expect delays in this area. The condition of the occupants of the truck is unknown at this time. No other details are available.
The crash remains under investigation.
