On Saturday, three people were hurt after a single-vehicle rollover crash in Ferndale residential neighborhood.
First responders were sent to the crash scene at around 12:4o p.m. near the intersection of Malloy Avenue and Thornton Street. Officials said that there were 3 people in the black BMW M3 at the time of the accident. One person refused medical aid, another was treated and released at the scene and the third person had fled the area.
According to the bystanders, the driver ran from the crash towards north on Malloy Avenue. Bystanders informed the authorities that the BMW was heading northbound on Malloy Avenue at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line and ran off the road on the west side.
The car seemed to have rolled at least once, before ending up right-side up in the front yard of a residence. The BMW left a trail of wreckage as it crashed through garden rockery, broke down a small tree, broke off a branch of a large evergreen and tore up 2 large patches of sod in the yard where it finally stopped.
A car parked in a drive appeared to have had windows broken and was damaged from the driver’s side from the flying rockery. Ferndale Police were reported to have found the driver about a half-mile from the crash site and he was taken to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center by ambulance.
An investigation is ongoing.
