A hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian in downtown Savannah (Savannah, GA)

On Sunday night, one person was killed while another suffered injuries after getting struck by a vehicle in downtown Savannah.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run accident took place at about 11 p.m. at Bull and Liberty streets. The preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was driving away an attempted traffic stop by Savannah Police but the officers did not chase the vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle hit two pedestrians.

One of the victims died of their injuries after the collision. The other suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Authorities said that they are looking for a newer model red Dodge Charger Hellcat with a Michigan tag. The vehicle should have front end damage and a missing driver’s side mirror. Officials have not released any description of the driver. No other details were provided.

The incident remains under active review.
