A hit-and-run crash killed a man on 710 Freeway in West Long Beach (Long Beach, CA)

On early Tuesday morning, a male pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a car driving north on the 710 Freeway.

Officers actively responded to the freeway’s 9th Street offramp at around 3:01 a.m. on reports of auto-pedestrian crash. On arrival, they found the victim in the roadway. Long Beach fire medics determined the man dead at the scene. The victim is only identified as a 33-year-old Long Beach man.

The early reports showed that the man was walking northbound along the right shoulder of the northbound 710 Freeway when he crossed into lanes of traffic. Just then, a white SUV heading northbound in the No. 2 lane and struck the pedestrian before it left the scene. Detectives are also trying to find if the victim was hit by a second vehicle.

The crash remains under active review.
