On Tuesday morning, a bicyclist suffered injuries following a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 35 on the South Side.
The bicycle crash took place at about 4 a.m. on the northbound access road, close to West Pyron Avenue, just north of Southwest Military Drive. The preliminary investigation showed that the man, who is in his 30s, was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. He reportedly failed to maintain control of his bike because he also was carrying a duffel bag and television at that time, and fell onto the access road.
Just then, a car struck the bicyclist and fled from the scene. His girlfriend was riding a bike behind him, but she informed the police that she failed to see the vehicle involved or get a look at the driver. On arrival, medics transported the man to University Hospital with non-critical injuries. The driver of the vehicle will be charged with failure to stop and render aid once they are found.
The incident remains under active review.
