On Wednesday, a 24-year-old Hayward man lost his life following a fiery car crash near Patterson, authorities say.
California Highway Patrol states, just before 3 a.m., officers actively responded to the intersection of E. Las Palmas and Elm avenues on reports of a crash. On arrival, officers found a rolled over car fully engulfed in flames and a man next to the burning car. He was unresponsive, officers say, and was later declared deceased.
As per investigators, the car was traveling eastbound on Las Palmas Avenue when, for an unknown reason, it swerved to the left and slammed into a tree. As per reports, the crash did not involve any other vehicles. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was not wearing a seatbelt, officers mention. Authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the man killed, but he was said to be a 24-year-old Hayward resident.
An investigation is continuing at this time.
