On Sunday morning, one person was killed following a fiery accident on Interstate 5 in the San Ysidro area, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.
At around 8:40 a.m., bystanders witnessed flames and smoke in the bushes on the right shoulder of southbound I-5, close to Dairy Mart Road. The early reports showed that a vehicle crashed into a tree, triggering a fire that spread to surrounding vegetation.
Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and put out the fire. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unknown at this time. It is also unclear if anyone received injuries following the collision.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
