A 66-year-old man dead after he suffers from a medical emergency and crashes on I-5 (San Diego, CA)

On Wednesday night, a 66-year-old Oceanside man lost his life after he had a medical emergency and crashed his car into a pole and another vehicle on Interstate 5 in San Ysidro.

As per the initial information, the fatal incident took place at the off-ramp to Via de San Ysidro, just north of the San Ysidro Port of Entry at around 7:30 p.m. The preliminary investigation showed that the man failed to maintain control of his Nissan Rogue after suffering from a medical episode.

The car then hit a wooden pole and another vehicle. On arrival, medics transported the man to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision. The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
