On Thursday, a 24-year-old male passenger was killed after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 15.
Officers quickly responded to the area of freeway’s northbound lanes, north of Field Road at about 5:13 a.m. after getting reports of a traffic collision. The early reports showed that three males were in a 2022 Kia when the driver attempted to pass a Freightliner by driving on the right-hand shoulder.
There was a parked semi-truck, officials mentioned. The car crashed into the parked semi-truck from behind. The victim was ejected from the back window and onto the lane where the semi-truck they tried to pass was driving. Just then, the semi-truck hit the man.
The man was declared dead at the scene just before 6 a.m. Emergency crews transported the Kia’s driver and front passenger to Barstow Community Hospital with minor injuries. Officials do not believe that alcohol and drugs were involved in the accident.
An investigation continues.
