The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Grass Valley on Monday afternoon. The collision occurred at around 3 p.m. on Brunswick Road close to Highway 174 in Cedar Ridge.
Gerald Nelson, 81, of Colfax, was operating a 1994 Dodge pickup truck on Brunswick Road when he failed to negotiate a tight turn and entered oncoming traffic. According to the CHP, the Dodge struck the Mercedes broadside before slamming into a post and a traffic sign
A woman was found stuck inside a 2006 Mercedes when officials arrived. According to CHP officers, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
On suspicion of DUI, the second driver was taken into custody. Nelson was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being incarcerated at the Nevada County Prison for a fatal crash.
